This gal is a sight to behold in June-July -the pale blush HT shaped blooms create a soft, romantic effect. Without deadheading, however, there is not alot happening after that. Got the stock from a reliable rose house in Ontario (Pickering Nursery) so am quite confident it's not a Dr.VF. The scent is only mild and disease tolerance pretty good here in the Canadian Pacific south. I'd recc. it for certain applications but I'm personally a real stickler for repeat blooms in my primetime locations around the house.

This is my New Dawn's second year with me. It has a mulitude of new canes sprawling on the mulch. Can it be grown as a rambler? chris in ct.

It is a rambler by breeding, and like most ramblers will root down if you leave those canes to sprawl on the mulch. Be warned!

G.A. is lovely as a deep yellow scented climber. She's reached 6' as a 4 year old shrub (only 1 yr in the ground). The blooms are quite large and full; good with re-bloom. BS does get it but yellows tend to be susceptible (Gold Stern and Golden Gate are supposed to be better choices in that regard). I had flowers from June-Nov here on SE Vancouver Island, BC.

Of the 20 or so varieties of roses I grow here on Vancouver Island, BC Westerland is my favourite for its fabulous colour, fragrance, vigour, exceptional disease resistance and continuity of bloom. It is a large specimen, so recc. giving it lots of room. Pickering in Ontario carries it.

One of the few truly repeat-flowering ramblers. Under-utilized, in my opinion, and will fill a large area. Not fragrant but vigorous and quite disease resistant here on Vancouver Island, zone 7.

Great post.

Thanks for sharing your experience and putting it into context with location and zone information. You might consider updating your member page to include your location and zone information there so you need not include it for every plant post.

Thanks again !
