Hello Beth.
My daughter, (also Beth!) gave me a bare root Elle for Christmas because I was looking for a big pink rose. It never came out of dormancy, so I finally replaced it last week with another Elle in a 5 gal pot (In bud, but no blooms open yet.) Today the first bloom opened and it is orange and yellow! Very pretty, but not PINK! Is this normal for the first blooms? Will I have a pink rose or and orange/yellow rose? It looks simiar to About Face. Should I return it to the nursery or just be happy with this nice healthy bush? What is a great PINK rose???
Thanks for your help and advice. Beth'smom@ GW

Hi Beth's mom!

Sounds like you might have a mismarked rose. ELLE can occasionally get some apricot tones, but if yours looks more like ABOUT FACE, then I think it's probably the wrong rose. There are so many pink roses out there, it's hard to really sufggest any one rose. Altho one of my favorite pure pink ones that smells delicious is THE MCCARTNEY ROSE. In my climate it reaches over 6ft tall and about 4ft wide. The blooms can blow kind of fast, but there's usually so many it doesn't matter. And the scent is wonderful. Hope that helps some.

Beth

Thanks for writing last May!
As it turned out, I do have the correct Elle rose. After months of wondering, my Elle started blooming PINK with slight apricot overtones. Guess it's the season or heat or ????
Tt has turned out to be a wonderful rose- fairly heat tolerant, and vigorous new growth, beautiful blossoms. I'm glad I didn't replace it!

I know I'm not Beth, but I was thinking the same of my Elle. Very pretty this spring after two seasons of getting off the ground. Right now, and last bloom cycle was orange. Like you said, pretty but not what I've been waiting for. Nice to hear someone else say that. I know I have the correct rose, like I said, the blooms were pink in the spring. Hmm.

Thanks for writing.
Maybe it's the season or heat or ???? My Elle finally "became" a pink rose! After waiting for several months it took hold and started blooming, and the blossoms were definitely PINK, but with slight apricot overtones. Great rose, is quite heat tolerant, blossoms last several days. I'm glad I didn't replace it!
