I just purchased a miniature rose called "Peppermint Patty" with the breeder name on the label as "SAVapatty', There are some numbers on the tag also: 0113082.163 and A1605-34 but I could not find any patent information. Although the phrase "PPAF Unauthorized Propagation Prohibited" is on the label. I don't see it listed here. All I can tell you about it at this time is that it's pink.

Peppermint Patty is the "marketing" name for a rose discovered by my friend, Brenda Smith, which she named after her daughter as a 16th birthday present. Its registered name (and the name that must be used for showing this rose at ARS shows) is Chelsea Brittlyn. See, http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.40913.0

Thank you, rosaholic. I'm hoping you are correct (CB is lovely!) but why would mine have the name SAVapatty on it? I saw Chelsea Brittlyn but didn't see any patent name and so I didn't think that was it. Is the SAV prefix just what Nor'East uses on all it's patent names? The blooms that were on it were all spent so I really couldn't tell much except that they were pink. Hopefully when it blooms again it will compare favorably with the pictures of CB.

Yes. The prefix "SAV" used to mean "hybridized by Harm Saville," but Nor'east now uses it more generally with any rose they register. See, e.g. Remembering Dee and Gem O' The Rockies, both of which are hybridized by others, but registered by Nor'East using the SAV prefix for their code name.

Thanks! That is great news! I'll be using the correct name of Chelsea Brittlyn then. I have Lady Bren too!

it is a pity, that the work of breeders of miniature roses like moore, saville, bennett and many others is so little appreciated here in europe. i hope some day a nursery on the continent will take a chance and introduce them to european rose-lovers.
