[From American Peony Society Bulletin, 1972, p. 10:] Dr. Julian L. Janus Sleeping Beauty Gardens, Chicago, III. Our first planting was of exactly 400 seeds, picked at random and planted just for curiosity's sake — that was 25 years ago. The next planting was almost all hand-crossed and carefully labeled. Not knowing what other breeders used for their bloodlines, seeds were selected from peony varieties of 21 different breeders in order to have a wide blanket representattion and thus expose the hidden....
