[Description of the garden of Hidcote Manor] ...it is difficult to remember details in a garden so thick with detail. I remember also a particularly brilliant picture composed of Major Johnston's own climbing rose, originally known as 'Hidcote Yellow' but now called 'Lawrence Johnston,' its rich butter-yellow holding its colour splendidly in conjunction with the flame-and-orange of R. 'Signora' its next neighbour on the wall.

...the pink Buttonhole Rose, with its sharp little pointed buds, also called Rose d'Orsay because that famous dandy affected it in his coat. I have never been able to find this in any nurseryman's catalogue.
