This important paper contains Edward L. Greene's original descriptions of Rosa melina (now Rosa nutkana subspecies melina), Rosa macounii (now Rosa woodsii ), Rosa manca (now Rosa woodsii subspecies manca), and Rosa suffulta and Rosa pratincola (both now Rosa arkansana var. suffulta).

These roses reflect Greene's work in the late 1800's in the Southern Rocky Mountain Plateau of western North America, from New Mexico north to Montana.
