Enlarged and revised edition based on "Neu Vollkommenes Kräuter-Buch" by Bernhard Verzascha (1678), the City doctor of Basel; which in turn was based on the herbal "Compendium de plantis omnibus" (1571) of Pietro Andrea Matthioli (1501-1577), published in German translation as "Kreutterbuch" 1590 in Frankurt am Main. The rose varieties are not specifically mentioned in these earlier works, except in very generic terms (white rose, red rose, field rose, etc.)
