The Vintage Rosery has acres of beautiful lakeside gardens, with a special emphasis on old garden roses. The gardens are open to the public Tuesday thru Saturday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Admission is free.
The Vintage Rosery grows over 150 varieties of own root roses which are available next to the gift shop. These are offered in two and five gallon containers, year round. Mail order and shipping is not available at this time.
Being organic gardeners, no synthetic chemicals are used on their roses. The selected varieties are resistant to desease and pests found in the hot, humid climate of the Texas Gulf Coast. With the plants not developing a dependency on chemicals, and having a balanced diet of organic food, they are quite healthy and hardy. So much so, The Vintage Rosery offers a life-time warranty on most of the roses. See their web site for details. They also use and have available various types of beneficial insects that allow nature to do the work of killing bad bugs.
The display gardens were designed by the owners, Bob & Marcia Roenigk, to show their roses at their maturity and how they can be used in a garden setting. The gardens range from a large formal design surrounded by fifty pillars covered with climbing roses, to a garden where a few selected roses are just used as accents to perennials. The gardens at The Vintage Rosery are relaxing and are full of ideas and inspiration.
The gardens are in their full bloom and splendor in the spring and fall, but there are always roses blooming throughout the summer. They are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and are easy to find. They are about a 25-minute drive from Sugar Land or Houston.
