Just beautiful. I purchased one myself last fall and am looking for that perfect spot to plant it. Do you know how it fairs in the shade? Thanks

Elizabeth, roses hate shade. A lot of people say the Hybrid Musks can tolerate shade, but that is simply not true. My Prosperity is in a fairly shady spot and it absolutely struggles. So no. Roses. Hate. Shade.

Hmmm, that's not what I was hoping to hear. The spot that I'm considering gets 4-5 hours of morning sun, then an hour or two of dappled shade, and then total shade from about 2:00pm on. I'm in a much drier, warmer climate than you, if you're in Reno. I live in SanDiego County, CA. The afternoon sun is too brutal for many of my roses. I have her (PP) in a half barrel right now with only about 3 hours of morning sun all day. I bought it as a small band in the fall. In her current position she has about 5 longish horizontal branches, each between 2 and 5 feet long. I'm getting clusters of 5-8 blooms already, but they look awful. The buds are so thickly covered with white fungus, that not a one has ever opened. Leaves actually don't look too bad. When you say yours struggles, do you mean to bloom? Or do you have disease problems like I do from too much shade? Do you spray or use anything? Sorry this is so long, but I'm really grateful for your reply. I fell in love with that picture last year and searched for a place that carried the pink. So pretty. No wonder I found your pictures of Pink Prosperity to have the nicest(IMO) color. The shade must deepen the color, yes? Any way, thanks Regina. Elizabeth

Elizabeth, four to five hours of morning sun should actually be fine. I am not sure how much sun mine gets as the tree behind it has grown over and above it, and since the neighbors put in a solid fence nearby.

Mine struggles to bloom. I don't recall disease problems on this rose, but am not where I can check more carefully right now. No, I never spray even when I do have mildew (a morning water rinse will help, giving the plant time to dry by night time). Mildew is my only disease issue with my desert climate and it is cosmetic, temporary and not generally significant to the overall survival of the rose.
