Because your rose was part of a mis labeled batch of rooted cuttings. I have one, too. It is highly likely the rose you have is Ping Dong Yue Ji. I know for certain mine is as I have grown Ping Dong Yue Ji for a number of years and I have used it in breeding quite a bit.

Thank you for this information. It may be good for breeding but as a cut flower or garden plant it is basically useless. I just took a photo of the bush and will try to post it. Thanks.

Perhaps. I believe Isabella Ducrot is the same rose as Bassoues Tea, which I grow. I wanted Isabella to compare them. Bassoues Tea has extremely fragile, thin, papery petals which fry in direct sun. I live in Santa Maria, CA where it is NOT "hot". Bassoues' flowers are gorgeous in over cast days. If there is any direct sun, the petals fry. Ping Dong Yue Ji's petals don't burn in the sun here. Ping Dong has a tremendous scent. Bassoues has none. You are making these judgements on an immature plant, but that is your right. Ping Dong does grow into a more upright plant and is quite beautiful. Not if you were expecting the sunset shades of Ducrot or Bassoues, but its flowers are significantly more durable.

My young Isabella Ducrot looks exactly the same as yours, and I've also been wondering if it's the correct rose. I'm a little disappointed at the pale pink color, honestly. Mine was also purchased from Rose Petals Nursery.

When I read your comment from 2018 I knew we had the same plant. You mentioned pale pink and weak neck, we have the same plant and mine was ordered in 2017, I think the same year you ordered yours. That was my first (and last) order from Rose Petals as the other Rose I ordered from them was wrong too. If it weren't for this website I wouldn't have known about your experience, and the fact we both received the wrong rose. Thank you for your posts!

Does this pale rose have any prickles on its stems?

No. I just checked the plant. It has 3 small blooms with no prickles on their stems. The other prickles on the plant aren't many or very big. The whole plant is only about 6" high, 8" wide. All the blooms flop over due to the weak stems. I will post a photo of plant if you would like.
