Two roses follow that were grown in Ms. Willmott’s Warley garden and were first described by her in The Genus Rosa. She indicates in the work that Rosa blanda var. Willmottiana originated from seeds sent from America years earlier to John Baker at Kew. Its coral-pink single flowers and compact habit of growth were thought by Mr. Baker to be distinctive enough to warrant naming. It doesn’t appear to have been grown by anyone other than Ms. Willmott.

Rosa blanda Willmottiana Baker, according to the figure, has nothing to do with R. blanda, but belongs without doubt to R. virginiana.

Rosa blanda var. Willmottiana (see accompanying plate) is a form growing in Warley garden, which was raised from seed sent from America and which Mr. Baker considered sufficiently well marked to be given a varietal name. It is an extremely pretty and interesting Rose with its red stem, small leaves, and clustered, coral-pink flowers. It is free-flowering and compact in growth.
