It wasn't what he sought from the cross. Unless it fit a fairly narrow window of what he saw in his mind's eye, and particularly if it wasn't a miniature, Mr. Moore had virtually no idea what to do with a rose. Tangerine Jewel was what he "saw" from Bracteata. Pink Powderpuff, Out of the Night and Out of Yesteryear completely confused him. Peach Candy fit his parameters of "Rugosa". It took him a while longer to "see" Linda Campbell and Round Tuit. Joe Winchell had the same "rose blindness". He could see little value in anything which wasn't an obvious exhibition HT. They simply weren't on their "radars".

A number of us would visit Mr. Moore and he would frequently ask, "Would someone BUY this?" Frequently, the answers were resounding "YES"s, but he couldn't see it. But, let an orange-pink or yellow mini flower and it was the first to be marked for further study. Don't get me wrong, I respected and loved the man. He taught me MUCH, but his vision simply couldn't understand other roses until quite late in his career.
