Origin:
Bred by Unknown (before 1798). Bred by Toutain (France, 1824).
Class:
Centifolia, Gallica / Provins, Hybrid Gallica.  
Bloom:
Purple, red shading, light yellow stamens, ages to darker .  Double (17-25 petals), flat bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  Glandular sepals, leafy sepals, ovoid buds.  
Habit:
Dark green foliage.  3 to 5 leaflets.

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Notes:
Possibly identical to 'Rosa ex rubro nigricans flore pleno', which would move the breeding year to before 1597.
