Finding this site is like finding my home base! Just like everyone it seems per the posts, MY Royal Highness was also a "save" also from WAL-MART, in early June, 50% off and barely alive. Flash ahead.....has done every saved rose so right. Recovered and bloomed well the first year, second third and fourth years this rose alone stole the title "best in garden" for that first bloom.....10, 12 or 15 huge perfect shape blooms on firm, long hard stems, no wonder this was at the top of exhibition lists for so many years! Responds really well to epsom salts. Plant remains strong going into 5th year but the downside is: after that amazing first bloom it is all down hill in humid, hot 6a....like Peace its parent, it does not like it too hot and will drop leaves. And it is rather subject to blackspot (in the lower 50% ile in my garden). The summer blooms are small and the fall ones and no where near as impressive as the spring and I have also had issues with mildew. But for me that stunning, incredible, whole plant looking like a blue ribbon rose show bouquet makes it worth it. I love this rose.

Mine is over 10 feet tal and 4 feet wide....she bring blooms after blooms.....just a gorgeous Lady! does not seem to be bother with anything except maybe a little rust a the end of winter. she's not in full sun and seems to be growing like crazy.....took her a couple of year and got a couple of treats but on yr 3 did she sprout...from 2-3 feet to more than 10 feet tall!
I wish it had more fragrance though:( gorgeous flower and really big blooms. can't wait for this spring to see what she will bring me.....that tall???? now I need to find something to put underneat since the sprout happen! gorgeous....I need to post some pics!

Royal Highness is a great performer in my garden . The front rose bed is right out in the open exposed to all the elements, it can have summer time scorchers [40+deg.] and hard frosts in winter [-7deg. is the lowest *official* recording] I did find in her early years she needed a bit of staking to counteract wind rock because the bush was so heavy with foliage and bud. It has been in the ground nearly 5 years now and is very sturdy.
My roses basically live in a no spray regime and Royal Highness still performs consistently . It doesn't seem to be to bothered by our bore water [which is on the acid side] too much either.
One of the things I do like is the way she holds her blooms up above , well clear of the bush, which makes it particularly showy and if you don't deadhead after the last flushes of autumn flowers , she sets enormous bright orange red hips , also held up above the bush.
I usually leave the hips on the bushes for as long as possible as they provide a source of food in the cold weather for the 28's and rosellas .
This year I collected some hips for the seed and was really impressed by the size and quantity of seed in the hips. No wonder they are a favourite with the birds.
