Bred by Philippe-Victor Verdier (France, 1854).
Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1863 as 'Baron de Wassenaër'.
Class:
Moss.  
Bloom:
Mauve - pink, blush reverse.  Lilac-pink.  Strong fragrance.  Medium, semi-double to double, borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, globular bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Few or no prickles/thorns.  Medium, light green foliage.  5 to 7 leaflets.  

Height: 4' to 7' (120 to 215cm).  Width: up to 4' (up to 120cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
