'Josephine' clematis Reviews & Comments

Mine is going into third year now and is getting better with blooms, but she's still struggling to put out more vines. I cut her back after bloom to see if next year will bring more vines now. Otherwise, she is a fighter and her blooms are exactly what I expected them to be. She is a shorter vine, so perhaps containerizing her is a good thing if you live in a warmer climate. I live in a cold climate and she at least just shrugs off the cold and comes back every spring. She's a great little clemmy, but you have to be patient with her, only then will she show you what she's got! lol

I bought this plant 2 years ago and have found it to be both free-flowering and a good grower. However, none of the flowers have resembled any of the photos shown here, their appearance being close to (although not exactly the same as) 'Empress'. 'Empress' is said to be a sport from 'Josephine' - perhaps my plant is a sport?
