I was delighted to see this rose come back after minus 20 temperatures. It was under 12'+ of snow, too. The plant is vigorous with nearly 4' of new growth in three months.

My Spellbound just finished it's fourth year in my garden and I am so glad to have it. I live north of Kansas City about 50 miles zone 5b/6a--right on the line, but I tend to be more 6 than 5 I think. I don't winter protect my roses and they all do just fine and I rarely lose any more than 1 or 2 during a winter and most times none at all.
One thing to remember is to give all roses three good full years to develop and be at their best.

"First year they sleep,
Second year they creep,
Third year they leap!!"

This old adage is really true, so remember it well and keep track of when you planted your rose. And, if you transplant a rose from one section of the garden to another, you start the countdown all over again.
Anyway, my Spellbound in it's third year in the Fall really took off and this year being it's fourth the whole year was spectacular. The bush is so well behaved growing up and not encroaching on its' neighbors and the stems are still plenty long for good cut flowers. The disease resistance is quite good. Even when I get behind spraying, Spellbound stays perfectly dark green and shiny leaved with no fungus issues. The blooms are very large and have a beautiful coral color that lasts the life of the bloom with very little fade until the very end of the bloom life. The fragrance is very light and most noticeable in the cooler morning and evening, though it is never heavy. This is one rose that does like it's fertilizer and plenty of water, so it does need to be paid attention to. Deadheading spent flowers keeps it blooming profusely all growing season long. Luckily, the thrips are not very attracted to the blooms much at all either.
This rose always stops visitors for a second look and many times lots of ooohhhss and aaaahhs about its' lovely flowers. With over 400 roses to look at in my garden, any roses that garner extra attention must have something special going for it, and Spellbound is one of those.

I've had Spellbound in my garden for a couple of years, and I'm very pleased with it. This spring, I'm thinking of adding We Salute You. Can anyone comment on how these two orange hybrid teas may compare and contrast? I'm in southern California in Zone 9A. Thank you.
