Where IS this rose?! How does nobody have it? Yes, allegedly it has been around in body bags but I bet whatever is in those bags isn’t the real variety. I remember this one from my childhood. It’s good, not great. It has gorgeous foliage. In 2023 I can somehow still buy Mme Chiang Kai Shek but not Lowell Thomas…..

Lowell Thomas has been making appearances on the Home Depot/Lowe's circuit for the last few years. Lowe's is where we picked up a replacement Mr.Thomas mere days after our old champ finally gave out.
It's a neat upright growing five foot tall bush that doesn't spread much or clump together. (Very easy to prune.) It's a reliable fairly disease-free giver of clear medium yellow blossoms that hold their color in the sun and smell nice. It does take a bit longer than some to recycle. As well as being pretty light on thorns. The fragrance is among the best and most unique for yellow roses. Mostly clove but with a hint of cinnamon as well.
Three-quarters of a century after it's release it is still one of the better yellow roses around and worth seeking out.

I am preparing to plant 4 Lowell Thomas bushes bought from Sexton Roses. My choice of location will be determined, in part; on how large a plant I should expect this rose to become. Of all the photo's I've seen, none show the entire bush, only the flower. Should I expect a tall, spreading rose bush or a short compact one?
Regards, A. Rhoden
