Origin:

Bred by Karl Hetzel (Germany, 1986).

Class:

Hybrid Multiflora, Large-Flowered Climber, Polyantha, Rambler.

Bloom:

Crimson and purple. Strong, linden fragrance. 10 to 20 petals. Average diameter 1.25". Small, cluster-flowered bloom form. Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom. Small buds.

Habit:

Climbing. Glossy, dark green foliage.

Height: 4'11" to 8'2" (150 to 250cm). Width: 2' to 39" (60 to 100cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Can be used for ground cover, hanging basket or pillar. Hardy. a good subject for pegging. can be grown as a shrub. can be trained as a climber. prefers cool sites.. produces decorative hips. shade tolerant. suitable for a pillar. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant, blackspot resistant, mildew resistant, very rust resistant. Prune lightly until this rose gets established (about two years), then prune it back by about a third..

Notes:

Hermann Schmidt, the person, was an architect at Zweibrücken, Germany, and was once vice president of the Zweibrücken Rose Society.

The American Rose Society has classed this rose as a Large-flowered Climber, which is wrong; it is a small flowered multiflora-Rambler. It´s exceptionality is the wonderfull intensive limetre-fragrance which is carried by the wind and may be noticed from yards!
