Bloom:

Pink. [Deep pink.]. Strong, damask fragrance. 35 to 40 petals. Average diameter 3". Medium, very double, borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, flat, formal, globular, old-fashioned bloom form. Moderate, blooms in flushes throughout the season. Medium, rounded buds.

Habit:

Tall, armed with thorns / prickles, upright. Medium, matte, medium green, leathery foliage.

Height: 2' to 5' (60 to 150cm). Width: 2' to 7' (60 to 215cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Can be used for shrub or specimen. Vigorous. can be grown as a shrub. drought resistant. prefers full sun. prefers warmer sites. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant, susceptible to rust . Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that. Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood.. Feed this rose well. Prune dead wood.

Notes:

Growth habit is upright, canes wiry and heavily covered with many small, brownish prickles. Intensely-fragrant blooms are not large (bet. 2.5-3-inches dia.) -- color is lighter in in hot weather. Repeats in the Fall.

He was a man who was so infamous for his obscenities and vulgarities, his name became a curse word. Mel Hulse, knowing of this distant family relationship, shared the rose collected from Sam Hill's grave with me.]
