Origin:

Bred by Gebr. Leenders / Leenders Bros. (Netherlands, before 1926).
Introduced in France by Grandes Roseraies du Val de la Loire in 1927 as 'Marquise d'Andigné'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1929 as 'Marquise d'Andigné'.

Class:

Hybrid Tea.

Bloom:

Scarlet - crimson. Strong fragrance. Very large, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Large, pointed buds.

Habit:

Few or no prickles/thorns, upright, well-branched. Dark green foliage.

Height: up to 20" (up to 50cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b and warmer. Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.

Notes:

Madeleine Ives Goddard of Providence, Rhode Island (July 1, 1874 - March 31. 1931 Providence), married the Marquis René d'Andigné (September 18, 1862 - 1929) on December 29, 1906 in Providence. She was trained as a Nurse and served in the Spanish-American War and World War I. She became president of Le Bien-Être du Blessé, a French relief organisation for the war wounded, and was decorated twice for Courage and resource under fire.
