Bred by Paul Pekmez (France, 1988).
Introduced in France by NIRP International in 1991 as 'First Red'.
Class:
Florists Rose, Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Dark red.  None to mild fragrance.  Average diameter 2.25".  Medium, full (26-40 petals), classic hybrid tea, exhibition, high-centered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Upright.  Medium, semi-glossy, dark green foliage.  3 to 7 leaflets.  

Height: 35" to 39" (90 to 100cm).  Width: up to 2' (up to 60cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 7b and warmer.  Can be used for cut flower or exhibition.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .

[From LARGE ROSES: VARIETY TRENDS THROUGH 1998 – 2000:] For some 15 years the top large rose sold in Europe has been 'First Red'... This is a long stemmed; slow opening rose that grows and stores well in a wide range of conditions. It is particularly popular at Valentines Day. In terms of stem sales it out-runs its nearest rival by 2-1. It can however sometimes be difficult to open, especially when grown in the cooler climates... It now has two serious rivals in 'Red Berlin' and 'Grand Prix'.
