Includes photo(s). ‘Claude Monet’/JACdesa: Hybride de Thé… bouton carmin vif… corolle richement flammée de rouge, de jaune et de blanc sur une base rose orangé, avec des striures, des griffures et des éclaboussures sur les deux faces des pétales… Malgré son attrait, elle reste assez rare… Jackson et Perkins, USA, 1992. On classe parfois cette variété parmi les floribundas. Henri Delbard a dédié cette rose à Claude Monet (1840-1926) et il est probable que le peintre aurait aimé l’inclure dans son jardin de Giverny.

It was named for the French painter who lived from 1840-1926...

The selection was not initiated by Giverny, nor has it any bearing on Monet's preferences. Plans were made to launch it at Giverny but so far the 'Claude Monet' rose has not materialized...

Delbard had seen this rose and several similarly marked roses in California during a stint with Jackson & Perkins and when he returned to France he dubbed them Painter's Roses. He describes this one as A rose with white, red, yellow tongues of flame. A bud may burst in crimson and that shade will soften as the other colors come to life...
