As no doubt some of our members are aware, a very unsatisfactory situation with respect to Rose names has arisen within the past few years due to the practice of certain large commercial firms in re-naming Roses of European origin, contrary to and in defiance of "International Rules of Botanical Nomenclature" and its supplementary schedule known as Appendix VII (Nomenclature of Garden Plants).

Admiral (A. Dickson 1947).  This was sent out in America under the name of WAVES to honour an organisation similar to our WRANS, but in this and similar cases of deliberately changing of titles contrary to the International Rules of Nomenclature, the original name only is recognised.  This is an excellent variety with coral pink buds opening to salmon pink double fragrant globular blooms.  It is a very strong grower with good foliage. 60 petals.

Admiral.  (2 plants 2 years old and 4 plants 1 year old). Something between Shot Silk and Dame Edith Helen. Early spring blooms have been pale both years but summer and autumn flowers have been well up to specimen bloom standard. I used several at shows last autumn. Grows well and blooms freely. May win a place among the 45 show roses rather than among the decoratives.

Admiral is a superb exhibition thing of light pink, faultless in form, large and lightly scented. Its growth, so far, is very good, and foliage is clean and healthy.
