New Roses 1937. Olympia (HT.  M. Tantau 1935) F. 3.  Dark crimson blooms after the style of 'E. G. Hill' with a more uniform centre.  Growth and foliage are good and the flowers and colour last well either on the bush or when cut.  This variety must not be confused with 'Olympiad' sent out in 1931.  E.

Olympia, HT. (Tantau, 1935). A large, full, sweetly scented variety after the style of 'E. G. Hill', but much more thorny. Apart from the trouble of disposing of thorns on blooms for decorations, they are a menace to plant health, as they lacerate the bark of neighbouring branches and permit disease to enter the stems. Rose societies might well insist that thornlessness is a definite quality in a new Rose. In other respects 'Olympia' is a good Rose, but confusion is inevitable, as it is quite distinct from 'Olympiad' ('Madame Raymond Gaujard'), sent out a few years ago.

p116.  Allan A. Brundrett.  A Victorian Review of the Season's Novelties.
Olympia, H.T. (Tantau). The bright red colour is very clear and it keeps well. The blooms are fairly full, 30 to 40 petals, but it has not shown any very distinctive qualities so far.
