'Little Nugget' rose References
Book  (2005)  Page(s) 31.

Loraine Roberts. Five Favourite Small Roses. 'Little Nugget'. Perhaps more of a patio rose size but the lovely form of the bright yellow buds is stunning. It takes a few years to get going but has a special part in my heart as it is the first rose to flower in my garden.

Nola Simpson. Final Analysis 1996-97.
'Little Nugget'. (SUNgold); Schuurman 1992; 'Lorena' x 'Firefly'; yellow; 38 reports on 73 plants; 60 cms; 7.8 rating. Over the years this patio has been reported on, it has received mainly praise from everywhere. The blooms are a good clear yellow in colour and of good exhibition form borne on compact plants with attractive ribbed foliage. Blackspot, downy and powdery mildew mentioned from several areas. Te Awamutu says it is always the first to get downy mildew every year and the budded plants do much better than those that are cutting grown. The stems are often short and the repeat is on the slow side. The first flush of blooms in the spring are the best. All in all a very satisfactory yellow, and many say it is the best available.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1995-96 Season.
'Little Nugget' (SUNgold); Schuurman 1992; 'Lorena' x 'Firefly'; yellow; 14 reports on 29 plants; 1-5 years; 50cms; 7.8 rating. Mostly praise from the reporters for this yellow patio, blooms are of good exhibition form borne on compact bushes with good ribbed foliage. Powdery mildew, black spot and downy mildew mentioned from several areas. Te Awamutu says budded plants do much better, Manawatu says it lacks vigour with him, HT form, blooms are fleeting and disappointing. Wellington has it in a pot and is waiting for it to do something. Central Otago thinks it is lovely, but very small plant. Another report from Te Awamutu says it has wonderful form, rich yellow with lovely glossy foliage, quite healthy apart from downy mildew.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1994-95 Season.
'Little Nugget' (SUNgold). Schuurman 1992. 'Lorena' x 'Firefly'. yellow; 11 reports on 22 plants; 1-3 years; 65cms; 7.6 rating. Mostly praise from the reporters for this yellow patio, blooms are of good exhibition form borne on compact bushes with good ribbed foliage. Powdery mildew, black spot and downy mildew mentioned from several areas. Bay of Plenty has found the growth rather stunted and a Feilding grower says not much new wood produced. The stems tend to be short. Waikato has found the growth slow and poor repeat. An Auckland grower considers it is outstanding in all respects. A very worthwhile rose to grow.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1993-94 Season. Miniatures/Patios.
'Little Nugget'. (SUNgold). Schuurman 1992. 'Lorena' x 'Firefly'. Yellow, 13 reports on 22 plants. 1-3 years. 48cms. 8.0 rating. Mostly praise from the reporters for this newish yellow. Interestingly, no reports from the south except one from South Canterbury. A patio, not mini, blooms of good exhibition form, colour golden yellow which holds with little fade. The bushes are fairly compact with really nice ribbed foliage. Bay of Plenty and Manawatu both mention downy mildew and blackspot vulnerability; Manawatu considers it not so good after the spring flush. It has no vices according to a grower from Westland!

'Little Nugget' (SUNgold); Schuurman 1992; 'Lorena' x 'Firefly'; yellow; 6 reports on 6 plants; 1-2 years; 40cms; 7.9 rating. A new yeIlow on the scene and rated weIl by all six reports. Blooms are a nice clear yellow of good HT form, colour holds well, a little on the large size. Plants are compact growing, mostly healthy although it can get black spot at times.
