Gardeners’ Magazine 4: 244 (1828) Rosa alpina, garden variety speciosa. This is supposed to be a hybrid, between R. alpinum and R. indica. The flowers are semi-double, of a very brilliant carmine, fading into pale rose colour as the blossoms approach decay. This was raised by Mr. Drummond of Cork. The flowers appear in June and July. It goes under the name of Drummond’s Thornless Rose, and is one of the most striking of the tribe.
