Foliage : dark green, somewhat grey; elliptical leaflets which are quite ribbed, often thick. Bloom : in clusters of 2 to 5, medium size, double, cupped; quartered petals; some stamens visible. Colour : mauve-pink at the centre, pinkish white on the periphery. Ages to lilac...Fragrance : very strong. ...This variety was probably bred in Belgium. It is found in the catalogue of Van Houtte (Ghent) from 1846 onwards. The colour is described there as "velvety purple", which ...does not correspond to the colour of the variety currently known under this name.
