The Garden p. 219 (Sept 16, 1899) SOME GOOD CHINA ROSES. Philomel We have in Mme. E. Resal a distinct proof of the fact well known to hybridists that the second and third generations of a cross often produce the best results. This is no disparagement of Mme. Laurette Messimy, for it will always hold its own. When once a variety has taken hold of the public it is a difficult matter for any newcomer to oust it from its position. I think of the two kinds mentioned above the parent is the better grower.

This rose (given as Madame Eugenie Resal) is cited in the Catalogo Generale 1896-7 of the Milanese nursery Stabilmento Agrario-Botanico Angelo Longone (p.39): "Has long brownish red (rosso cappuccino) over orange red, flowers large, full, bicolour, varying from brownish red to very bright Chinese red on a background of yellow orange passing to pink. Superb variety." It looks as if you don't have access to this catalogue. If you like, I'll give you a list of roses in this and in the Sala and Mauri catalogues of the same period.
