The dukedom of Peñaranda de Duero is a subsidiary title held by the Fitz-James Stuart family, dukes of Alba. In Pedro Dot’s day it was held by Hernando Fitz-James Stuart (1882–1936), younger brother of the duke of Alba. Both played Olympic polo. The duke of Peñaranda was chamberlain to Alfonso XIII. He was murdered in the Civil War. His “duquesa”, a lady-in-waiting to the queen, was María del Carmen Saavedra y de Collado (Madrid 1897 – Seville 1967).
