In 1974 Walter Duncan left Adelaide and moved to Watervale in the Mid-North of S.A. After a short break growing cut flowers professionally, he decided to grow wholesale rose plants. His business was known as The Flower Garden. It prospered and eventually grew hundreds and thousands of plants during the next 28 years. He sold the business in 2002 - information taken from The Rose Society of South Australia Inc 1908-2008 Editor Mary Frick. I believe the next owner only operated for a year or two before the business closed. Personally Walter was a good source of rare and unusual roses in my early days of growing old roses - many were imported from Peter Beales by Walter.

Walter Duncan also collected some significant older roses in and around Adelaide. In the 1960s the Adelaide Botanic Gardens had a few remnant roses from the old Rosary and 'Molly Sharman Crawford' and 'Laurette' are among varieties he collected from there at this time. A plant of 'Laurette' in the Heritage Rose Garden at Pinjarra was supplied by Walter in the mid 1980s.
