'Golden Shot' rose Reviews & Comments

Re my comment yesterday. This morning's readings of the 1982 New Zealand Rose Annual, page 71 brings forth the information that: ....John Martin was born and brought up in England....tried farming before coming to Gandy's Roses Nursery near Rugby in the English Midlands. Mr. Martin stayed here eleven years, the last three as Nursery manager. In 1971 Mr. Martin came to New Zealand to live....
It is obvious then that 'Golden Shot' was bred in England, (and would have been placed in the Trial Grounds in 1971) by the same John Martin that went to New Zealand and later set up the nursery in New Plymouth, NZ, Egmont Roses. (Mr. Martin also bred another 1969 rose whilst at Gandy's 'Sweet Velvet'.)

The 1974 reference says 'Golden Shot' was bred by J. Martin, New Zealand. However, there was also a J. Martin, breeder in Rugby, England and as the rose was introduced by Gandy in the UK, the English breeder may be the correct one.
