This may be neither here nor there; but in 1879 this rose's breeder Labruyère was exhibiting at the office of the Lyon horticultural association "a bouquet from a rose from seed coming from 'Louise Odier'; this seedling has been grown in a pot up to the present time, and the roses which were left at the office are worthy of serious attention" (Lyon-Horticole, vol. 1, p. 175). Though this is obviously too late for 'Reine Victoria', it (A) shows that Labruyère was disposed to grow seedlings from 'Louise Odier', this thus perhaps having earlier been the parent of 'Reine Victoria', and (B) might be cause to see if some suitable Bourbon, representing this seedling, was not long thereafter released by some other firm of Lyon, as Labruyère's 'Reine Victoria' had been released by Schwartz.

I have just added the 1983 Peter Beales reference for ‘La Reine Victoria’ Bourbon. He describes it as a “slender erect bush” and it seems to me that he may have been selling the HP ‘La Reine’ as the Bourbon ‘Reine Victoria’.

A quick check of the Beales site indicates that the currently offered rose (La) Reine Victoria is indeed just that. The photos show the unmistakable shell shape.

A bunch of Reine Victoria (not mine, alas) won Grand Champion at the South Australian Spring Rose Show; the first time a "heritage" rose has won it.
