Translation: C. Duchess of Teck, Jackman, — A strikingly lovely variety of the late-blooming lanuginosa group, originating from C. lanuginosa X C. lanuginosa nivea. Its growth is easy and strong; the flowers are remarkable due to the perfection and regularity of their form. The leaves are large, trifoliate and heart-shaped. The flowers have a diameter of 18- 21 centimeters, and have 6-8 sepals. The sepals are broad, elliptic-oval, briefly pointed; they are 65 millimeters wide, and overlap so that the inner row covers the bases of the outer sepals. The anthers are whitish brown, and age to a light reddish brown. Blooms from July to October. Given an award in 1873.

Magazine (Jun 1876) Page(s) 133. Includes photo(s). We need only to invite attention to the accompanying very accurate figures of two new varieties of Clematis to convince our readers that they have here before them some sterling novelties. Fig. 1 represents the variety named Duchess of Teck.... Clematis Duchess of Teck belongs to an early-flowering section of the lanuginosa group, which has been obtained by hybridisation, and to which several of Mr. Jackman’s novelties belong. It has ternate leaves, with large cordate leaflets, and six to eight-sepalled flowers, measuring eight inches in diameter, of a pure white, and of exquisite form, as our figure admirably shows. It is, no doubt, one of the very finest of the white lanuginosas yet obtained, and together with Mrs. George Jackman and Alba magna, should be specially sought for as soon as it is ready for distribution.
