Your support of HelpMeFind is urgently needed. HelpMeFind, like all websites, needs funding to survive. We have set a premium-membership yearly subscription amount as low as possible to make user-community funding viable.
We are grateful to the many members who have signed up so far, but the number of premium-membership members remains too small for us to sustain the current support and development level. If you value HelpMeFind and want to see it continue we need your support too.
Yearly membership is only $2.00 per month and adds a host of additional features, and numerous planned enhancements, to take full advantage of the power and convenience of HelpMeFind. Click here to start your premium membership..
We of course also welcome donations of any amount. Click here to make a donation. Donations of $24 or more receive a thank-you gift of a 1-year premium membership.
As far as we have come, we feel HelpMeFind is still in its infancy. With your support we have so much more to accomplish.
Magazine (2021) Page(s) 22. Vol 43, No. 4. Margaret Furness. Random Notes About Chinas. I used to assume that Chinas didn’t sucker, until Viridiflora (Smith 1827) appeared some distance from where it had been removed.
Newsletter (Feb 2012) Page(s) 8. [From "China in California: Dr. Wang at Quarryhill", by Darrel g.h. Schramm, pp. 8-9] ... the ‘Green Rose’ or R. viridiflora, which Graham S. Thomas claimed originated as a mutation of R. chinensis in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1853 (but, according to Krussmann was already in cultivation ninety years earlier), is a rose known in China for centuries.
Article (newsletter) (Jun 2010) Page(s) 46. The China Rose Society has organised experts to collect, identify and preserve the cultivars scattered in home gardens around the countryside, and made a preliminary determination of eight rose centres in Huaiyin (Jiangsu Province), Laizhou (Shandong Province), Zhengzhou (Henan Province), etc. More than 50 old rose cultivars like Lv e were ex situ conserved and some old rose cultivars such as Ruan xiang hong, Jin fen lian, and Fen he xiang were successfully used for the improvement of new rose cultivars.
Booklet (2009) Page(s) 28. Diploid....Green Rose, heterozygous loci 74% [Provenance: Antique Rose Emporium]
Booklet (2009) Page(s) 35. Perhaps the most easily noted detail revealed about the China Roses by the similarity matrix though, was how many accessions had identical SSR profiles. The "C25 grp" on the dendrogram represents the China Rose cultivar Old Blush, with the group's oldest recorded date of introduction into Europe of around 1752 (Cairns (ed.), 2000), and the eight synonyms or sports found in this study: 'Climbing Old Blush', 'Green Rose', 'Single Pink', 'Rouletii' [all ex Antique Rose Emporium], 'Pompon de Paris' [ex Ralph Moore], 'Bengale d'Automne' [ex Vintage Gardens], 'Archduke Charles' [ex ARE], and an R. chinensis var. semperflorens [ex Flower Research Inst., Yunnan]. This large group of synonyms and sports still actively propagated and sold in the trade demonstrates how important 'Old Blush' continues to be, long after being used as a parent of importance in the breeding of modern roses. .....the 'Green Rose' or 'Viridiflora' had been speculated to be another sport, and was also found to be genetically identical in several previous studies (Martin, et al., 2001; Scariot, et al., 2006).
Article (magazine) (2006) Page(s) 68, 71. p. 68: ...identical phenotypes were found within OGR cultivars for R. xcentifolia L. 'Rubra' and 'Crested Moss' for 'Kazanlik', 'Quatre Saisons Blanc Mousseux' and 'York and Lancaster', and for 'Old Blush' and 'Viridiflora'.
p. 71: Lastly, data confirmed the possibility that ʻViridifloraʼ is a sport of ʻOld Blushʼ (Beales et al., 1998).
Book (Aug 2002) Page(s) 45. Green Rose Hybrid China, prior to 1856 Rated 7.8
Article (magazine) (Dec 2000) Page(s) 149. Green Rose -- Correct horticultural classification is HCh (Hybrid China & Climbing Hybrid China).
Book (2000) Page(s) 286. Includes photo(s). ‘Green Rose’ / Rosa chinensis viridiflora / ‘Rosa Monstrosa’ / R. viridiflora = Ancien – Chine – vert, remontant. Apprécié depuis longtemps des amateurs d’art floral, c’est un curieux rosier dont les fleurs troquent leurs pétales contre de longs sépales verts… Avant 1833. Peut-être un sport de ‘Old Blush’.
