Registration bloom description: " flowers deep red with orange markings unique on each bloom, brilliant white eye, long golden stamens, reverse medium red with orange markings, single (4-11 petals [reg.2003]) medium (1.5-2.0 inches) blooms borne mostly solitary. . ."

The blooms have a phase when they are almost solid deep red with very little, if any, orange; in mid-summer into the fall, the blooms show the characteristic orange markings, giving each bloom a "handpainted" effect.
