I have been trying to ID this rose for years, found the entry in Phillips & Rix's "The Quest for the Rose". Interestingly it is one of several suckering wild gallica-like roses I have found near old farmhouses in varied climates in South Africa. Anyone researched/documented these 'new world gallicas' obviously carried along by wagon in the late 19th century?? The 2nd photo is of another rose from over 1000miles away. I have found but not collected pale pink specimens as well.
