Bred by Brent C. Dickerson (United States, before 2000).

Class:

Bourbon.

Bloom:

Deep pink. Strong pink with a touch of lilac. Moderate fragrance. Average diameter 5". Full (26-40 petals), in small clusters, cupped-to-flat bloom form. Prolific, blooms in flushes throughout the season.

Habit:

Tall, climbing, upright. Medium green foliage.

Height: 5' to 8' (150 to 245cm).

Growing:

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Vigorous. flowers drop off cleanly. suitable for a pillar. Prune lightly or not at all.

Patents:

Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).

Parentage:

seedling of Souvenir de Victor Landeau (bourbon, Moreau-Robert 1890)

Notes:

Hybridizer Brent Dickerson states that this rose works very well planted up against a wall or fence, but that it does not require these for support. He says the habit is not unlike that of 'Joasine Hanet' (i.e., "The Portland From Glendora." He also touts the "decorative large round orange hips."
He cautions that 'Charles XII' does NOT benefit from winter pruning -- and that "cutting it back that way would give you a nice foliage plant at the expense of bloom."
This rose was bred in the very mild coastal climate of Long Beach, CA.
