Notes:
The vigor of this thornless climber, beginning in year two in the garden, is breathtaking! Long 10-15 foot "coach whips" emerge from main canes in mid and late summer. arching over until they touch the ground. Bound to a rebar trellis, these long canes bloom the next spring, never while still emerging and growing. It is currently being tested in Albuquerque by Lee Sherman, in Aptos by Bill Grant, and by Anita Clevenger and Barbara Oliva at the Sacramento Historic Roses Garden. I plan on continuing my research into its ID plus getting this aggressive remontant gem into the trade. So far, it, sadly, has been a very reluctant and unproductive breeder for me, dang it! Robert Neil Rippetoe (in a photo comment for White Maman Cochet) feels that.... Barfield seems to be allied to the multiflora ramblers and polys. I'd guess it's related to Tausendschön.
