Breeder's notes:
One of the few Hybrid Teas in the "handpainted" strain, very showy.
We had sent this rose, as only a code-named variety to our friend Mr. Katsuhiko Maebara who is in charge of the Kusabue-no-oka Rose Garden in Sakura City, near Tokyo. Started originally as a garden to house all the roses of the late Mr. Seizo Suzuki, the well known Japanese rose breeder, the garden has, over the years because of Maebara’s enthusiasm, a collection of roses from many parts of the world-- Italy, France, China. He has many of our roses too, so India is also represented. Along with our registered roses, we sent him this variety, which is one in the ‘hand-painted’ strain, of which Viru has a few, to test it out. Apparently it did very well. When we went to Japan to attend the WFRS convention in Osaka, in 2006, we naturally visited this garden, and escorting us around were Maebara and Dr. Yuki Mikanagi, with whom we had been in email touch, and had met at various rose conferences over the years. She is a lovely person, gentle and thoughtful, and a world recognized rose scientist whose work is being appreciated and applauded throughout the rose world. When we came to this plant, which had no name, she exclaimed that she just loved it - it was so colorful and gay. Immediately Viru said, ‘We would like to name it for you, Yuki.’ Taken aback but obviously immensely pleased she replied, ’Oh Viru, thank you so much, but you know, ‘Yuki’ means snow, and this rose is red and white’ .Promptly Viru shot back, ‘Well then, it will have to be’ Blushing Yuki’ ”. And sure enough the person Yuki became a deep crimson!!! She was so delighted that that very evening she took her mother, grandmother and aunt to the garden to see the rose in bloom which had been named for her. And the name stayed.
