Bred by Hermann Zabel (Germany, before 1895).
Class:

Bloom:
Carmine-red to purple.  Moderate fragrance.  Average diameter 3".  Medium, single to semi-double, cluster-flowered, in small clusters bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  Large, rounded buds.  
Habit:
Upright, well-branched.  Large, matte, medium green, leathery, wrinkled (rugose) foliage.  7 to 9 leaflets.  

Height: 39" to 4'11" (100 to 150cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Vigorous.
