Bred by Joseph Sauvageot (France, 1927).
Introduced in France by Francis Gillot in 1928 as 'La Maréchale Pétain'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1930 as 'La Maréchale Pétain'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Carmine-red.  Blood red bud opening cerise (Carmin de cochenille).  Moderate fragrance.  Medium, full (26-40 petals), borne mostly solitary, globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, bushy, upright.  Dark green, dense foliage.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
According to "Les Amis des Roses" October 1928, this rose descends from unnamed seedlings of 'Colonel Leclerc' x 'Chateau de Clos Vougeot', i.e. it is not a direct seedling of these two roses.
Dedicated to Eugénie Hardon (October 5, 1877 Courquetaine, Seine-et-Marne - January 30, 1962 Paris), who on September 14, 1920 married Henri Philippe Benoit Omer Joseph Pétain (April 24, 1856 Cauchy-à-la-Tour - July 23, 1951 Port-Joinville), French officer, politician, President of the "État français" (Vichy. 1940-1944), Maréchal since 1918.
