Bred by Jean-Pierre Vibert (France, 1821).
Introduced in Australia by Darling Nursery in 1851 as 'Wax Rose'.
Class:
Gallica / Provins, Hybrid Gallica.  
Bloom:
Light pink.  Strong fragrance.  Large, full (26-40 petals), cupped bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Upright.  

Height: 39" to 5' (100 to 150cm).  Width: up to 3' (up to 90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 8b.  Prune after flowering is finished.

On January 1, 1515, François, Duc d'Angoulême, succeeded Louis XII as François I of France.

Some sources say 'Duc d'Angoulême' and 'Duchesse d'Angoulême' are the same rose, some don't. See References for more information.


Marie-Thérèse-Charlotte de France, Madame Royale, the Duchesse d'Angoulême, first child of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, was born 19 December 1778 and died 19 October 1851.


Pépinières Loubert's 2002 Catalogue assigns a date of 1821.
