Paolo Baroni belonged to a family of gardeners. The progenitor was Gaetano (1791-1868), First Gardener of the Giardino dei Semplici, in Florence, father of Paolo (1823 -1887) who succeeded to the father and became for 10 years Director del Giardino dei Semplici, Professor at the school of Pharmacy in Florence. and, since 1867, Assistant to the Chair of Natural History of the Istituto Tecnico; in turn he was father of Dr. Eugenio, Director dell’Orto dei Semplici.
