Since 1992, when my brother passed away unexpectedly, I vowed to continue the luck he had with his "green thumb." I began growing roses that year and have continued in nearly every year since. My wife and I have three small rose gardens on our Carson City, Nev., property.

While in Silicon Valley for a decade, I started a photography business, The Flower Photographer, and became known as The Flower Photographer of Silicon Valley, largely for my photos of roses at the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden and dahlias at The Dahlia Garden in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
