[From L'Illustration Horticole, August 1883, p. 132:] L. C. Spaeth, le doyen des pépiniéristes allemands, s’est éteint à Berlin dans la 90e année de son âge, entouré de l'estime générale. Le sympathique vieillard jouissait d’une grande considération parmi ses concitoyens et ne comptait que des amis. Il fut un des premiers promoteurs de l horticulture en AIlemagne.

The nursery was established 1720 by Christoph Späth and was in existence at least until 1933.
