Madeleine Simone Cognet (née Vinauger) (October 28, 1904 Orléans - October 9, 1995 Chartres), a member of the Resistance from February 1943, took over the management of the Pépinières de Couasnon after the death of her husband Fernand Henri Cognet (July 11, 1899 Olivet - April 20, 1945 Chepenice, Czechoslovakia) in World War II (member of the Resistance since January 1943). The nursery closed on April 1, 1978.

[From the website "Route de la Rose du Loiret":] Fernand Cognet, situé rue du Couasnon. Après la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale, Mme Fernand Cognet reprend le flambeau et dirige l’établissement qui se spécialise dans les roses. Obtentrice reconnue, elle a créé des variétés nouvelles, dont un beau grimpant jaune soufre baptisé « Ville de Paris ». Les pépinières du Couasnon fermeront leurs portes en 1978.
