Saakov, 1976, p. 61:] The Sowchos "Decorative Plant Cultures" in Naltchik in northern Caucasus has an extensive collection, hoeber modern varieties are propagated, which are suitable for green areas, for obtaining of cut roses and for culture under glass. In this enterprise Kowtunenko dedicates himself to the selection and breeding of understock. He mainly involves himself with the local wild forms of R. canina...On the mountain slopes in the vicinity of Naltchik grow many forms of this wild rose.
