Walter Johnson was Sam McGredy III's brother in law. He operated Samual McGredy and Son, Nurserymen after Samual Davidson McGredy III passed away in November 1934 at the age of 38. He ran the business until Samual Darragh McGredy IV assumed control in 1952.
Roses bred during Walter Johnson's stewardship are listed with Samual Davidson McGredy III until 1940, but under Walter Johnston from 1941-1951.
