The renowned rose gardens within this Parnell park include a comprehensive collection of mainly modern roses )over 4,500 plants), while the Nancy Steen Garden beside the main rose beds is devoted to old fashioned varieties. The Nancy Steen Garden is a favorite venue for weddings, especially if the glorious 'Wedding Day' is in bloom. The white garden is a fitting memorial to the late Mrs. Nancy Steen, who popularized the cultivation of "early settler", non-hybrid roses.

p117. K. Nobbs. Last week (November 13th).....Later in the day Lady Beattie cut the ribbon for the Official Opening of the Nancy Steen Garden at the Sir Dove Meyer Robinson Park in Parnell, Auckland. Heritage Roses New Zealand in co-operation with the Auckland City Council had planted a garden of Old World Roses with companion plants for the benefit of the citizens and visitors to the Queen City. President Toni Sylvester and her hardworking Committee had worked long and hard assembling plants and providing finance and labour for the superstructures and paths. The circular white garden of white roses and white companion plants was especially notable. Mrs. Nancy Steen who was able to be present though unable to stand with her husband at the Opening.....
